Kara L. Ewing, MSW, LCSW
|
Kara is fully licensed to practice in North Carolina and Alabama. |
Kara earned her Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University in 2001 and moved to the Charlotte area soon after, drawn by blue skies and warmer weather. Over the past two decades, she has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including school-based therapy programs, child and adolescent partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, and inpatient care. She has served the Lake Norman community in private practice since 2008 and opened her own practice in 2020.
Kara works with children (ages 10 and up), teens, and young adults, with a special passion for supporting college students and emerging adults as they navigate the stress, transitions, and growing independence that come with this stage of life. She enjoys helping young adults better understand their patterns, relationships, and family dynamics so they can make intentional changes, develop healthier coping strategies, and create lives that feel more balanced and authentic. She also enjoys working closely with parents, offering practical guidance and support to help families feel more connected and effective in their parenting. Her work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while also integrating a whole-person approach to mental health. Kara incorporates lifestyle factors such as sleep, movement, and nutrition, along with strategies that support central nervous system regulation. She is currently expanding her training in Polyvagal Theory and Brainspotting to deepen her ability to help clients process trauma, manage stress, and feel more grounded and regulated. Kara strives to create a warm, collaborative, and safe environment where clients feel understood and empowered to grow. She has extensive experience supporting individuals and families navigating anxiety, depression, difficulties with emotional regulation, life transitions, and family and parenting stressors. Kara and her husband live in the Lake Norman area and have one son who keeps them busy with athletics. Outside the office, you can often find her running, hiking with the family dog, cheering from the sidelines, watching football, or laughing with family and friends. She strongly believes that mental and physical health are deeply connected and enjoys helping clients care for both. |
